چکیده

Stabilized or Chebyshev explicit methods have been widely used in the past to solve stiff ordinary differential equations. Making use of special properties of Chebyshev-like polynomials, these methods have favorable stability properties compared to standard explicit methods while remaining explicit. A new class of such methods, called ROCK, introduced in [Numer. Math., 90, 1-18, 2001] has recently been extended to stiff stochastic differential equations under the name S-ROCK [C. R. Acad. Sci. Paris, 345(10), 2007 and Commun. Math. Sci, 6(4), 2008]. In this paper we discuss the extension of the S-ROCK methods to systems with discrete noise and propose a new class of methods for such problems, the τ -ROCK methods. One motivation for such methods is the simulation of multi-scale or stiff chemical kinetic systems and such systems are the focus of this paper, but our new methods could potentially be interesting for other stiff systems with discrete noise. Two versions of the τ -ROCK methods are discussed and their stability behavior is analyzed on a test problem. Compared to the τ -leaping method, a significant speed-up can be achieved for some stiff kinetic systems. The behavior of the proposed methods are tested on several numerical experiments. Restricted even permutations and Chebyshev polynomials

We study generating functions for the number of even (odd) permutations on n letters avoiding 132 and an arbitrary permutation τ on k letters, or containing τ exactly once. In several interesting cases the generating function depends only on k and is expressed via Chebyshev polynomials of the second kind. 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification: Primary 05A05, 05A15; Secondary 30B70, 42C05

A novel technique for a class of singular boundary value problems

In this paper, Lagrange interpolation in Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto nodes is used to develop a procedure for finding discrete and continuous approximate solutions of a singular boundary value problem. At first, a continuous time optimization problem related to the original singular boundary value problem is proposed. Then, using the Chebyshev- Gauss-Lobatto nodes, we convert the continuous time op...

S-ROCK: Chebyshev Methods for Stiff Stochastic Differential Equations

We present and analyze a new class of numerical methods for the solution of stiff stochastic differential equations (SDEs). These methods, called S-ROCK (for stochastic orthogonal Runge–Kutta Chebyshev), are explicit and of strong order 1 and possess large stability domains in the mean-square sense. For mean-square stable stiff SDEs, they are much more efficient than the standard explicit metho...

A hybrid scheme of single relaxation time lattice Boltzmann and finite volume methods coupled with discrete ordinates method for combined natural convection and volumetric radiation in an enclosure

This paper is focused on the application of hybrid Single relaxation time lattice Boltzmann and finite volume methods in conjunction with discrete ordinates method to simulate coupled natural convection and volumetric radiation in differentially heated enclosure, filled with an absorbing, emitting and non-scattering gray medium. In this work, the velocity and temperature fields are calculated u...

Developing a 3D stochastic discrete fracture network model for hydraulic analyses

Fluid flow in jointed rock mass with impermeable matrix is often controlled by joint properties, including aperture, orientation, spacing, persistence and etc. On the other hand, since the rock mass is made of heterogeneous and anisotropic natural materials, geometric properties of joints may have dispersed values. One of the most powerful methods for simulation of stochastic nature of geometri...
